“Barefoot Basketball” Comes to Girls High School in Pakistan

As part of Pervaiz Lodhie’s “Barefoot Basketball” initiative to bring the team sport of basketball to the youth in villages of Pakistan, a half-court was gifted by Mr. and Mrs. Mohammad Hussain Rokria to the Government Girls High School in Hala Old, District Matiari, Province of Sindh, Pakistan. It was gifted in loving memory of (late) Siddique Dawood and Hanifa Dawood.

The inauguration ceremony for the basketball half-court was held on October 14, 2012. After practicing for a week prior, the girls played a game of basketball in front of crowd of spectators. The court and the day’s events were organized by the NGO, Sindh Health & Education Development Society (SHEDS).

Solar LED Area Lights were installed on the court for nighttime visibility. The lights were manufactured and installed by Shaan Technologies, and they were designed by LEDtronics, Inc.
